On That Day
II Thessalonians 1:7-10: "When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed."
II Timothy 1:12: "For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day."
II Timothy 4:8: "Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." In His discourse in John 6, Jesus repeatedly calls this "the last day," (John 6:39–40, 44, 54John 6:39–40, 44, 54
39. And this is the Father′s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
44. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
54. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.).
On that Day—Jesus Christ Will Return. John 14:3: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." The angels told the apostles, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven," (Acts 1:11). I Thessalonians 4:16: "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God."
Christians must stay ready for that glorious day. "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect," (Matthew 24:44). "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly," (Luke 21:34).
On that Day—The Dead Will Be Raised. Jesus said, "For the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation," (John 5:28–29). Revelation 20:12–13 says, "And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God; The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them."
For Christians this will be a "resurrection of life." "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first," (I Thessalonians 4:16). Christians will be raised in an incorruptible body. I Corinthians 15:51–52: "Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed; in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." I Corinthians 15:42–44: "So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body."
On that Day—The Lord Will Judge Between the Wicked and the Righteous."For God will bring every act to judgment, everything hidden, whether it is good or evil," (Ecclesiastes 12:14). "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works," (Revelation 20:12). "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad," (II Corinthians 5:10). "The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father," (Matthew 13:38–43).
On that Day—Eternity Will Begin."And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal," (Matthew 25:46). "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt," (Daniel 12:2). Death brings an end to the time we have to prepare to meet our God (Hebrews 9:27Hebrews 9:27
27. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:). There will be no other opportunities to repent and change our lives. Whatever we have sown in life, we will be reaping for all eternity, (Galatians 6:7–8Galatians 6:7–8
7. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.).
